How To Get Traffic

It surprises me how most people new to making money online, content themselves with making a well designed website or blog - coupled with captivating graphics and relevant content, and expect to see a lot of monetary results within the next few days.

Coming up with a site is simply one side of the coin. Getting traffic - consistent targeted traffic in particular, is the other half, which is just as crucial as the first.

Perhaps you do not realize it yet that but for most moneymaking opportunities in the internet, traffic is the name of the game. So you have a stunning website that you believe has a lot of cool stuff that everyone (including your mother-in-law), would want to have a piece of. But since you're not aware of the name of the game, guess what? Nobody's looking. Perhaps only a few get to take a sneak peek of what you have to offer, and some have probably stumbled upon it by accident. You'll probably get a sale or two once in a while, but if you are serious in skyrocketing your internet marketing career, then... I'm sure you get the point.

Let's cover the basics on how to get traffic. There are four ways to get the right kinds of people knocking at your door (site) with wallet and card on hand, ready to brighten your day:

1. Articles - if you arelooking for a cost-effective solution to drive traffic to your page, blog or site, this is definitely one of the best. Take the time to write a bunch of articles a day and submit them to article sites such as EzineArticles.com, ArticlesBase.com, and GoArticles.com. Signing up for these sites is free and should not take any longer than 5-10 minutes of your time.

The key here is to establish a regular rhythm of writing articles that are for a specific audience you are targeting. Be sure to include your website URL and anchor text (if it's allowed) within your article or at the resource box (as in the case of EzineArticles).

So you think that writing is not one of your strongest suits? Get writers for hire to do the job! Their prices vary but you can get some who produce outstanding work at an affordable cost.

2. Forums -these are the places where people who are constantly looking for a specific solution to their problem can be found. They make certain posts asking questions, seeking advice from professionals, and commenting as well on their own experiences. You can get a lot of traffic from this by simply becoming a member of the forum, observing their concerns, and then posting stuff that is relevant and helpful to them.

Let me stress how important thatlast sentence is as otherwise, you would either be viewed as a nuisance or a spammer and get kicked out of the forum. It's a major slap at your credibility so be sure to provide quality answers.

Most of the time, these forums allow you to indirectly promote your website or provide a signature box where you can place anchor text and catch the reader's attention.

3. SEO -this stands for Search Engine Optimization which, in a nutshell is a process of organizing your site in a way that makes it attractiveto search engines and in the process, gives you a more visible presence online. This involves a strategy both within your site (e.g. relevant keywords, phrases, anchor text, headings) and without (e.g. backlinks from high page rank sites such as EzineArticles.com and other popular blogs).

As such, it is something that you should look to improve on a consistent basis as rankings in search engines vary, and if you are not always on top of your game, you could easily get kicked out of the first pages of topsearch engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN.

In vice versa, if you know how to rise above your competition, your place there in the search engines are worth a goldmine when it comes to creating traffic.

4. PPC -stands for Pay-Per-Click. this is one of the more consistent forms of getting traffic to your site. You do however, need a certain amount of capital as its name basically sums it all. You place advertisements either on search engines or specific sites, and every time people click on that ad, you pay a certain amount to the search engine or website owner. The price usually ranges from a few cents to a couple of dollars. Best advise is to always keep your ad placements relevant to avoid paying higher rates.
